We were overwhelmed to have Annisa feature on our new fitness range Morning Rise! Over the duration of this shoot we all came to see Annisa as more than a fitness queen. Her outlook on life and health and overall amazing attitude took control over us and we could not help but be in awe of this rising woman. Take a look below to find out more about who Annisa Belonogoff is and her tips and tricks for a positive life!
Fitness is currently your life and we have never met someone so enthusiastic about being fit, healthy and positive - tell us how you came to this point and how it hasn’t always been this way for you?
Gosh, wow, that's a big story. I never used to be into health and fitness, I've always danced since I was 4 with ballet, tap, jazz etc but going into gyms, and competing in bodybuilding competitions was never on my 'bucket list'.
As soon as I hit puberty I struggled with my weight. I was bullied at school and I turned to food for comfort. At 14 I weighed in around 100kg and I made a decision to make a change. I did what most 14 year olds would do and tried every celebrity diet under the sun, over exercised and as a result my weight would yo-yo for years making me very unhappy in my skin. I wasn't a confident person and I didn't feel beautiful.
After uni I decided I needed to make a change to be happy with myself. I got a personal trainer, got into an exercise routine, but still found it a challenge. I knew the body I wanted but I had no dead line to achieve it in. It wasn't till almost 4 years ago I started group fitness teaching and made the decision to do my first bodybuilding bikini comp that I made the effort to find the right trainer, routine and diet for me. Now I'm a International bodybuilder, I compete overseas and I just recently moved into the figure division. I've lost over 30kg of body fat and I teach and train people everyday through my group fitness classes to enjoy their workouts.
I know what it's like to hate the experience, I don't want any of my clients to feel that way in my classes. This is your life, it's meant to be fun.
How has feeling fit and healthy affected you mentally and emotionally?
It's changed my life. I used to be very uncomfortable in my body and hated the way I looked, as a result of that I wasn't confident in myself at all. I remember on several occasions sitting on my bedroom floor crying and staring at the clothes in my wardrobe because nothing would fit me or feel good to wear.
Even now when I think about it, it is such a powerful feeling to walk into a store and not feel you are chained to a size labeled on the garment. In the old days if I didn't fit that size 10, I simply wouldn't by it or try it on. Today if the 10 doesn't fit I'll try on and buy a 12. I've learnt the number on a piece of clothing doesn't define me. How confident I feel in that item of clothing is what matters most.
Every piece of clothing is made differently, you can by 10 pairs of size 12 pants and I can tell you now not one pair will be the same size.
I love my fashion, but I'm proud to say the size doesn't matter. Be healthy and happy on the inside, it shows.
You are also a personal trainer with many more exciting endeavours that you are working on (hint hint readers keep an eye out for this girl!). How do you juggle working and training?
Haha sometimes I ask myself the same question!
I know you have heard this all the time from people but you do learn to "make time".
I really don't have a structured workout schedule because my diary is never the same. I just look at my week and go, "OK I need to fit in 3 weights sessions and a cardio session or two, how can I make that happen?" Sometimes it means getting up early, staying late and doing a few reps, a jog around the block instead of heading to the gym or even a quick session before or after teaching a class, but I make it happen.
It really is the whole "IF YOU WANT IT BAD ENOUGH YOU WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN" I want to be a pro and the best at what I do, part of that is putting in the hard yards where and when you can.
Remember if you can fit in 15-20min a day working out that is going to be more beneficial to your body then doing an hour workout every so often.
You also do fitness comps - tell us 3 things that most people wouldn’t know about these.
ok inside scoop shhh don't tell anyone:
1) the photos that you see of people doing competitions, please remember they look like that for ONE day. We train our bodies to be fit and look a certain way and yes if you meet a bodybuilder in real life that will still look fit, however remember we will only be that "skinny" or "shredded" for that time of that competition. We are human, we have to live. Ha
2) The dark tan is important. The amount of people I meet who always ask about the tan. At comps they generally use stage lighting that is very bright, if you don't have a dark tan on to absorb the light reflection you won't see any muscle at all on stage.
I felt for a guy one year who I believe could have won it back stage, looked AMAZING, however didn't tan, and on stage he looked like a white ghost and you couldn't see anything. The tan is important.
3) There are many different federations these days, some new, some old. They are all a little different from one another, no two comps are the same. Different criteria and judging can mean a girl in bikini in one comp might actually look more like a fitness girl in another comp. Also remember some comps are all natural and tested and some comps aren't tested. There is a lot more to this sport than most people know.
Tell us why tanning in fitness comps are so important?
I kind of covered this before, but the tan is SO important! Getting the right tan will show off all your hard work. Remember most of these people have worked months on getting their bodies to this condition, if they jumped on stage without a tan those bright lights will wash them out the judges won't see any definition of their physique.
The darker the tan the less light gets reflected, there is a balance between dark and too dark.
Kaf.Tanned loves fitness and keeping healthy and have 3 new kaftans/robes from the ‘Morning Rise’ collection specifically made for fitness tanning. Which one is your favourite and how has it helped?
I think my favourite is the robe from the Morning Rise collection. I actually feel pretty sassy and sexy in it. It's quick dry, easy to wash and the best thing is.... It doesn't stick to my tan! This quick dry fabric is amazing I'm looking forward to rocking these at competitions, I honestly think the girls will LOVE them.
You have already accomplished so much and come so far - what are your goals for the future?
I am working on building my group fitness classes. I love training people in groups, because you know you aren't doing it alone. I have more and new classes coming soon from dancing, boxing, kettle bells to martial arts inspired workout classes and bootcamps coming all over Brisbane. Exciting times ahead, you can stay in the loop at my website here.
I also have a few competitions over the coming months with a clear focus on getting my Pro Card in Figure within the next 2 years. It's a massive goal and lots of hard work to come but I'm really excited to see what the journey brings. Bring on the Gold Medal I say!
The Morning Rise collection is available online here! Take the challenge!

In support of beating breast cancer we chose to do a Girls Day In with some of us wearing our beautiful Pink Days Kaftans, others wearing pink shirts and skirts, and some just wearing kaftans, we all got together and had a beautiful day in support of raising funds to help beat breast and all women’s cancers.
Not only did we have an amazing day full of pink champagne, food and decorations, but we all couldn't have been more happier than being in the presence of our dearest friends and family - some who have overcome breast cancer themselves! And above all – to love and support each other as women.
